Accident, Sickness & Unemployment insurance (ASU) Accident, Sickness & Unemployment insurance (ASU), can also be referred to as Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance and will provide you with a monthly benefit to meet your mortgage and mortgage related insurance premiums, council tax and utility bills if you are unable to work due to accident, sickness and/or unemployment. You may choose the amount of benefit you would like to receive, although there are some limits on the maximum amount. The premium will depend on the amount of monthly benefit you would like to receive. Benefits are payable for a maximum of 365 days.You can choose whether you want to receive benefits for accident & sickness only, unemployment only, or all three. Unemployment cover on it's own is only available with a new mortgage, further advance or mortgage product switch. The policy will also have a 'deferred period' This is the time you have to wait to start receiving benefits from the ASU policy after you have become ill, had an accident or become unemployed and make a claim. For insurance business we arrange policies exclusively from Legal & General APH's typical fee for arranging your mortgage is £250, however depending on your circumstances, a fee of up to 1.5% of the mortgage amount may be chargedYOUR HOME MAY BE REPOSSESSED IF YOU DO NOT KEEP UP REPAYMENTS ON A MORTGAGE OR ANY OTHER DEBT SECURED ON IT.
